Buckingham Palace Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British monarch. One of the most famous places located in London. The palace is a setting for state occasions and royal entertaining, and a major tourist attraction. It has been a rallying point for the British people at times of national rejoicing and crisis. Guards stand outside this palace night and day watching over it looking after and protecting it. It was originally constructed by Edward Blore and completed in 1850, however was redesigned in 1913 by Sir Aston Webb to suite better needs of the monarchic. Currently Queen Elizabeth II resides in this palace as many visitors wonder pass every so often out of curiosity. The state rooms, inside the palace, form the nucleus of the working Palace and are currently used regularly by Queen Elizabeth II and members of the royal family for official and state entertaining. Buckingham Palace is one of the world's most familiar buildings and more than 50,000 people visit the palace each year as guests to banquets, lunches, dinners, receptions and the royal garden parties, nearly all through invitation by the Queen or other special arrangements. Buckingham Palace is a symbol and home of the British monarchy, an art gallery and tourist attraction. Behind the gilded railings and gates which were made by the Bromsgrove Guild and Webb's famous facade which has been described as looking "like everybody's idea of a palace" the large staff employed by the Royal Household work to keep Britain's constitutional monarchy functioning.
