Statue of Liberty
In 1886, the French presented the Statue of Liberty to the United States . This statue has thus become a national symbol that is associated with the United States. No longer allowed, but visitors used to be able to climb up to the statue's crown for viewing purposes. This area of the statue closed because of the events that occurred on September 11, 2001.
The Statue of Liberty is known mostly as a welcoming beacon to immigrants. This image can be attributed to the engraving at the base of her feet, "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus, which reads,
My favorite pop culture portrayal of the Statue of Liberty would be in the movie, Ghostbusters 2. During the climax, the Ghostbusters blared joyful music through the Statue of Liberty while crossing the ocean into the mainland of New York. This is my favorite portrayal because it shows the Lady Liberty bringing American citizens together through a devastating time.
The Statue of Liberty represents various ideals.
